Born as in 1972, Roja was a trained Kuchipudi dancer before entering the film world.
She debuted in Prema Thapassu (1991) opposite Rajendra Prasad.
Her entry into Tamil cinema was orchestrated by director R.K. Selvamani (whom she later married) with the blockbuster Chembaruthi (1992).
